The new partnership between Health and Care Research Wales and the Centre for Research Equity marks an important step in making health and care research truly inclusive and rooted in local communities. Launched at the Senedd, the three-year Inclusivity Action Plan is all about making sure every voice is heard—from people in coastal and rural areas, to disabled people and those in underrepresented or “invisible” communities.

Speakers at the event, including Wales' Chief Medical Officer Professor Isabel Oliver and Director of the Centre for Research Equity Professor Mahendra Patel, shared examples of how community involvement in research, especially during Covid-19 trials, has shaped real progress in Wales. By working together and tailoring approaches that fit the diverse needs and experiences of people across the nation, this plan aims to build trust and ensure that research reflects the realities and aspirations of everyone. This joint commitment is about learning from communities and partnering with them for better health and equity.
