The Centre for Research Equity (CfRE) is an independent, non-profit coalition of community advocates, pharmacy teams, researchers, pharma and health industry, academics, and regulators.
OUR MISSION
To advance health equity by building strategic partnerships and promoting inclusive research practices across the UK and beyond.
The Centre is based in the University of Oxford's Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. It operates under the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Oxford and Thames Valley umbrella.
VISION
A future where health and care research represents and benefits all people and communities, leading to improved health and care outcomes and reduced disparities.
What we do
- Facilitate strategic collaborations between academia, health and care, community partners, and industry
- Provide thought leadership to drive systemic change
- Signpost existing best practices, partner organisations, and resources to avoid duplication of effort
- Offer guidance on incorporating diverse perspectives in health and care research
- Support innovative models of equitable research
Why we do it
Historically, health and care research has underrepresented certain communities, causing disparities in healthcare outcomes. The CfRE was established to work with partners to address this critical gap.
Through strategic partnerships and inclusive research practices, we will ensure health and care research benefits all segments of society, particularly underserved or marginalised groups.
Diverse representation in research leads to more comprehensive, applicable, and effective healthcare solutions. Our efforts strive to create an equitable health research landscape that drives meaningful improvements in health and care for all communities.
Our current focus
As a newly established centre, the CfRE is currently focusing on:
- Constructing Capacity: Strengthening inclusive research infrastructure, specifically with underrepresented communities
- Provoking Policy and Influencing Implementation: Advocating for equitable research policies at all levels
- Catalysing Collaboration: Facilitating partnerships between researchers, organisations, and communities
Our work aims to normalise inclusive research practices, benefiting researchers and communities in the long term.
We are part of the University of Oxford's Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences and grateful for the support of the NIHR ARC Oxford and Thames Valley during our foundational phase.
